CASE STUDIES
How we helped them win
GOV. KATIE HOBBS · ARIZONA · 2022
Winning the closest governor’s race in the country
We created and executed on Gov. Katie Hobbs’s earned media, prepared her for the campaign’s major moments, and helped shape her agenda. She won the closest governor’s race of 2022, becoming Arizona’s first Democratic governor elected in 16 years.
17,117
votes: the margin that flipped Arizona’s governorship
-
The challenge
The seat was held by a two-term Republican governor who co-chaired the Republican Governors Association. Registered Republicans outnumbered registered Democrats by about 166,000. And it was a midterm with a Democrat in the White House, typically a tough year for a candidate belonging to the same party that controls the presidency.
What we did
Media relations. Built and executed the earned media strategy and placed stories, including opposition research, that kept the campaign on offense and controlled the narrative.
Media prep. Prepared Gov. Hobbs for interviews, forums, and speeches to effectively compete against an opponent with decades of experience on camera.
Public policy. Shaped a clear policy agenda that demonstrated to voters why Gov. Hobbs would be a leader who works to improve the lives of every Arizonan.
The results
R → D: governor’s office flipped
1st: Democrat elected Arizona governor since 2006
#1: closest governor’s race in the country in 2022

Defeated a sitting incumbent in a primary, then won the rematch decisively
REP. WESLEY BELL · MISSOURI · 2024 & 2026
A hard-fought upset, then a decisive defense
We’ve advised Bell through two of the most closely watched primaries in the country, handling his media relations, debate prep, and policy. The result: an upset win in 2024 and a decisive rematch victory in 2026.
-
The challenge
Rep. Bell challenged a sitting two-term member of Congress in a competitive, closely watched primary. His opponent was better known at the time, with a larger national network of supporters. In 2026, she came back for a rematch, hoping to ride a national wave of insurgent primary wins.
What we did
Media relations. Built relationships with St. Louis and national reporters and kept coverage focused on Rep. Bell’s record and priorities in both races.
Media & debate prep. Prepared Rep. Bell for debates, forums, and interviews, sharpening his message and his contrast with his opponent.
Public policy. Shaped the policy agenda Rep. Bell took to voters, focused on the issues St. Louis families care about most.
The results
51%: to defeat a sitting incumbent in 2024
59%: to win the 2026 rematch
+22: point margin of victory in the rematch

Breaking through in crowded news cycles
Michigan Families for Fair Care wanted coverage in three battleground districts, at a time when national campaigns were dominating the news. -
The challenge
MFFC elevates the stories of Michiganders affected by rising costs and cuts to health care and food assistance, across three battleground congressional districts. Its issues had to compete for coverage with high-profile campaigns, often covered through a national lens. Earning attention meant giving reporters real people and timely angles, not just talking points.
What we did
Earned media strategy. Built and ran the program’s earned media plan, pitching stories and storytellers to local, state, and national outlets.
Riding the news. Tied MFFC’s issues to the biggest stories of the day, from tariffs to health care cuts, giving reporters a timely reason to cover them.
Storytellers. Connected reporters with real Michiganders, like Warren small business owner Michael Howard, who shared his story about how tariffs on Canadian lumber forced him to let a longtime employee go, and went on to do interviews across local and national outlets.
The results
1,300+: media hits, including national and global TV
3: battleground congressional districts with successful accountability programming
25+: events highlighting rising costs and lack of access to health care

SEAN MCCANN · MICHIGAN’S 4TH DISTRICT · 2026
Unseating an eight-term incumbent in a Trump district
Sean McCann took on an eight-term incumbent in a district Donald Trump carried, and one no Democrat had won in more than 90 years. Our research, campaign finance work, and media and debate prep helped flip the seat in one of the nation’s most closely watched races.
-
The challenge
Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga had held the seat since 2011. Michigan’s 4th District hadn’t elected a Democrat in nearly a century. And Donald Trump carried the district in 2024.
What we did
Self research. Built a full picture of Sean McCann’s record, so the campaign knew its strengths, was ready for attacks, and could draw sharp contrasts with an eight-term incumbent.
Campaign finance & disclosures. Reviewed the campaign’s own disclosures and dug into the incumbent’s campaign finance record, so filings stayed clean and every money contrast was documented.
Media training & debate prep. Prepared McCann for interviews and debates, sharpening the message he took to voters across the district.
The results
Sean McCann defeated Bill Huizenga in one of the most closely watched races in the country.
